It’s coming up to that time of year when we celebrate two events that we as humans love and our pets hate… Firework night and Halloween!
In past years fireworks were normally just let off on bonfire night, or the day before or after. Nowadays it’s quite common to start hearing them the first week of October!
Sadly, these sounds can cause extreme anxiety in our pets, in some cases, the sound of fireworks can cause dogs in particular to hurt themselves or run away from what they see as utter chaos. In some cases, people have sadly lost a pet.
According to the Kennel Club, around 40% of dogs in the UK are petrified of fireworks.
There are many expensive methods and medications available that may help, but one of the most effective options is CBD.
CBD as we know has become hugely popular in the UK over the past five years, with now over six million taking CBD as part of their health routine.
Many of these people take CBD to help with stress and anxiety and it works the same for our pets.
As in humans, mammals also have an endocannabinoid system ( ECS) which works in the same way a human ECS works. You can read more about how our ECS works.
CBD for pets is becoming increasingly more popular with pet owners and not just for anxiety, CBD can help with joint health and reactive dogs.
There are a few factors to think about when buying a CBD product for your pet, it’s exactly the same as when you purchase a CBD product for yourself.
There are many CBD products on the market now, from CBD oils to CBD gummies, CBD drinks and CBD patches, however, you are limited to what CBD product you can give to your pet.
CBD for Pet’s Checklist
- Make sure any CBD product you purchase for your pet has a full lab report which details everything that is in the product.
- Is the CBD company part of an organisation such as Cannapro?
- Is the CBD company transparent online? Believe it or not, some people buy CBD products off a social media site when there isn’t even a website! CBD isn’t a cheap product, so if it is too good to be true price, stay clear!
Questions We Are Often Asked About Giving CBD to Pets:
When shall I start giving CBD to my pet – the day the sounds start or before?
We would always recommend starting at least two weeks before, four weeks is even better! This gives the CBD time to work within your pet’s body, and also to see if it doesn’t agree with them. You also have the option to increase the dose if you don’t notice anything after a few days.
What is the best way to give my pet CBD oil?
We believe that the most effective and safest way to give CBD to your pet is either the CBD oil drops or our CBD gummies.
Is there a maximum strength CBD you should give your pets?
We would always suggest our lowest dose of CBD oils, which is 2.5% THC-Free CBD oil for a small pet and a 5% THC FREE CBD oil for a medium – large dog. Another option is our standard strength CBD gummies. Start with 2 drops a day twice a day or 1-2 gummies. Then build slowly if needed.
Is CBD best given to my pet with or without food?
It doesn’t make a big difference, however, if you are giving your dog CBD oil drops it’s going to be hard to get them to hold the drops under their tongue! So, it is much easy to put a couple of drops in with their food. If when giving your dog a CBD gummy, they would normally snatch it out of your hand, but if not, you can always pop it in a treat
What should I look for when buying CBD for my pet?
As we talked about above… lab reports, a genuine CBD website, member of a national CBD organisation.
How often should I give my pet CBD during the day?
As with humans – start slowly and build. If you choose our low dose of CBD oil, then start with a couple of drops of oil a day and build from there. You can also increase the drops during the week of fireworks.
If you choose CBD gummies, then start with one gummy a day.
